Roger Kasa

Roger Kasa knew from his days in elementary school that he was destined to be a writer, a determination made even stronger when a college professor told him he’d never make it as a journalist.

For more than 50 years, Kasa has worked in the South Dakota journalism industry, continuing to write into his retirement after a long career at the Huron Daily Plainsman.

He attended Grand View College in Des Moines and Augustana in Sioux Falls before embarking on a short-term career as a social worker for the South Dakota Department of Social Services in the late 1950s and early 1960s. He joined the staff at The Huron Daily Plainsman in 1965 and eventually became editor. Kasa is proud of his work covering Hubert Humphrey, whom he interviewed more than 20 times.

In 2005, Kasa was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. In 2011, Huron honored him with Roger Kasa Day.
