Maricarrol Kueter

Maricarrol Kueter’s interest in public service and watchdog journalism sparked in high school as she closely followed the news about Watergate and learned the importance of investigative reporting.

After attending SDSU, Kueter worked as a reporter for the Rapid City Journal, covering police and courts and later city government. She went on to be editor of the Dell Rapids Tribune and later a sister publication, theSioux Falls Tribune. Kueter also edited the Tri-State Neighbor, an ag publication owned by the same company.

In 1986, Kueter joined a friend to start a graphic arts business in Sioux Falls called Type 2 Graphic Arts. She returned to journalism in 1990 as an assistant city editor at the Argus Leader, eventually serving as regional editor, city editor, enterprise editor and managing editor in her tenure there before being named executive editor in 2008. She retired from the Argus Leader in 2015.
